In 2004, my parents celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary. I was twenty-one at the time and remember thinking that I couldn’t imagine being married to one person for that long – longer than I’d been alive!
Little did I know, I would become engaged two weeks later and have been married now for over seven years. Twenty-five years still seems like a long time to deal with my husbands’ dirty socks on the floor and his love of all things hunting, but it no longer seems like a lifetime. In fact, between new jobs, two kids, new homes, and everything in between, it feels as though seven years have flown by and I can only imagine how quickly the next eighteen will go.
It takes a lot of work to make a marriage last. It’s not always easy to live with someone day in and day out, deal with all of life’s challenges, and still remain close to each other. Every anniversary should be celebrated. It is a chance to look back and appreciate everything you’ve been through together and look forward to everything that lies ahead.
